Lawyer-To-Lawyer Mentoring Program
Qualified For Cle Ethics Credit

THE MINIMUM PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY CREDIT
DURING THE TWO-YEAR REPORTING PERIOD!

Illinois Supreme Court Rule 795(d)(12) allows you to participate in a year-long mentoring program, as either a mentor or a mentee, and earn credit equal to the minimum professional responsibility credit during the two-year reporting period.

The FBA Chicago Chapter Lawyer-To-Lawyer Mentoring Program has been approved by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, for CLE professionalism credit.

PROGRAM BEGINS IN MAY 2012 WITH A MEET AND GREET ORIENTATION MEETING. ONCE YOU ARE IN THE PROGRAM, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE EXACT DATE AND LOCATION.

PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS

BECOME A MENTOR. Share your experience and knowledge with a young lawyer, mentoring is rewarding, fun and you also learn something! You should value teaching and counseling new attorneys in the development of professional habits and strive to improve the legal profession through your mentorship.
FBA MENTORS must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered on the Illinois ARDC Master roll of Attorneys as active and in good standing;
  • Be admitted to practice law in Illinois for not less than six years at the time the program begins in May 2012;
  • Never have been suspended or disbarred from the practice of law in any state or jurisdiction and have no formal disciplinary complaint pending;
  • Be a member of the FBA (Dues include membership benefits and program costs)

BECOME A MENTEE. Learn from someone outside of working on a case together. Develop a relationship with an experienced lawyer. Have a sounding board, a source of advice and someone to help you develop professional habits early.
FBA MENTEES must meet the following requirements:

  • Be admitted to practice in Illinois no more than two years prior to the date of beginning the program in May 2012
  • Be registered on the Illinois ARDC Master Roll of Attorneys as active at the time of applying to, and during the time of participation in, the mentoring program;
  • Practice law in Illinois or intend to practice law in Illinois;
  • Be employed at least part time in the legal profession
  • Be a member of the FBA (Dues include membership benefits and program costs)

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Attend Orientation Meeting (date and place to be announced).
  2. Sign a Mentoring Agreement (provided at Orientation Meeting).
  3. Develop and submit a Mentoring Plan and a Mentoring Plan Pledge (forms will be provided for Plan and Pledge it at the Orientation Meeting).
  4. Attend a mid-year Progress Meeting and complete a Progress Survey.
  5. Participate in eight face-to-face meetings over the course of the year-long program, including our Orientation Meeting and mid-year Progress Meeting.
  6. *At the Orientation Meeting, we will suggest events and provide you with a schedule of FBA events that qualify as meetings, which also may earn you additional CLE credit!

  7. Participate in discussions and activities.
  8. Attest to completion and provide the Plan Completion Attestation to the Program Administrator.
  9. Complete the Attorney Application Mentoring CLE Certificate to obtain professional responsibility credit (this will be provided to you upon successful completion of the program).
