Judge Robert Blakey

Hon. Robert Blakey
United States District Judge
Northern District of Illinois

An opportunity for practitioners and students to enjoy lunch in a close setting with Judge Blakey.

After being nominated by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate in 2014, Judge Blakey currently sits on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Judge Blakey previously served as a federal law clerk in the Southern District of Florida, and worked as a litigation associate in a large private law firm, a state prosecutor in Chicago, and a federal prosecutor in both Miami, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois.

Just prior to his judicial appointment, he served as the Chief of the Special Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and was cross-designated for joint prosecutions, as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.  As a Bureau Chief, his duties included supervising the Regional Organized Crime Task Force and serving as the Chairman of its National Advisory Board.

Prior to the bench, Judge Blakey also had extensive experience as a national instructor and subject matter expert, and he reviewed and drafted various pieces of legislation, including serving as the principal drafter of the Illinois Safe Children’s Act (2010) and the Illinois Street Gang RICO Act (2012).  As of 2016, Judge Blakey also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law for the Notre Dame Law School.

Attorneys with active matters before Judge Blakey should not attend this event.
