Judge Kennelly Hosts Northwestern Law Student Division Lunch

Former FBA Chicago Chapter President and U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly hosted lunch with nine students from the chapter’s Northwestern University Law School Student Division. Lunch convened at Judge Kennelly’s chambers in the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse in Chicago.

  • The types of cases Judge Kennelly hears, and the types that come before him most often
  • Judge Kennelly’s path to the bench after serving as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Prentice Marshall and in private practice
  • Advice for students on choosing among career options (e.g., public interest, traditional private law firm practice, government practice)
  • What Judge Kennelly looks for when hiring judicial clerks
  • Differences between clerkship at the district court and the court of appeals
