The Voting Rights Act of 1965 has been described as the most effective civil rights legislation ever passed. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Act. The program will explore the need for and successes of the Voting Rights Act, its application and effect in the Chicago area, and the continuing relevance of the Act in the 21st Century.
