2025 Northern District Practice for New Lawyers & Lawyers-To-Be federal bar association chicago chapter

The Federal Bar Association Chicago Chapter invites law students, interns, summer associates, and new attorneys to attend the 2025 Northern District Practice for New Lawyers & Lawyers-To-Be, a free, in-person CLE seminar focused on advocacy in federal court.

This acclaimed program will be held at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse and features District Judge Matthew Kennelly presiding over live oral arguments on two dispositive motions from real cases. Attendees will experience federal practice firsthand as Judge Kennelly may issue rulings from the bench and offer real-time analysis.

After the arguments, District Judges Sunil Harjani, LaShonda Hunt, Matthew Kennelly, and Magistrate Judge Keri Holleb Hotaling will offer invaluable advice during a panel discussion on effective written and oral advocacy. A Q&A session will follow, providing participants with an opportunity to engage directly with members of the judiciary.

All attendees are invited to a post-event happy hour from 5-7PM at 2Twenty2 Tavern, located at 222 S. Wabash Avenue, just a short walk from the courthouse. This is a great opportunity to connect informally with fellow attendees and members of the FBA community.
