Restoring Lives: A Reception for the Federal Problem-Solving Courts Foundation
Join the Federal Bar Association Chicago Chapter and the Federal Problem-Solving Courts Foundation on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, for Restoring Lives: A Reception for the Federal Problem-Solving Courts Foundation. This in-person event will take place from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Union League Club, Crystal Room, located at 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Illinois.
Enjoy cocktails and appetizers throughout the evening while supporting a vital cause. The Federal Problem-Solving Courts Foundation provides critical funding for the NDIL Restorative Justice Courts and offers direct grants to participants for rent, utilities, medical expenses, and other essential needs, helping them build stable, crime- and drug-free lives.
A short program will take place at 6:15 PM, lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. Hon. Sunil R. Harjani, FBA Chicago Chapter President, will introduce Hon. Susan E. Cox (ret.), Executive Director of the Foundation, who will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Judge Cox will acknowledge sponsors, donors, judges, and distinguished guests while discussing the history and mission of Second Chance Court, the Foundation’s impact, and its goals for the future.
Speakers for Restoring Lives
Hon. Sunil R. Harjani, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
United States District Judge Sunil R. Harjani was nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate in early 2024, having previously served as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Illinois from 2019 to 2024. Before joining the bench, he spent a decade as an Assistant United States Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Section in Chicago, where he investigated and prosecuted complex white-collar crimes, tried numerous securities and fraud cases to verdict, and argued multiple appeals before the Seventh Circuit.
Prior to his time as a federal prosecutor, Judge Harjani practiced federal civil litigation as Senior Counsel at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, as an associate at Jenner & Block, and as a federal judicial law clerk. He holds a B.A. and J.D. from Northwestern University and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern Law School, teaching White Collar Criminal Practice, Federal Civil Discovery, and Depositions.
Hon. Susan E. Cox, Magistrate Judge, Northern District of Illinois
Hon. Susan E. Cox served as a Magistrate Judge from 2007 until her retirement in 2023. During her time on the bench, she served on the James B. Moran SECOND CHANCE Reentry Court for ten years and founded the Veterans Treatment Court. Prior to the bench, Judge Cox was a federal prosecutor, a member of the Federal Defender panel, and a law clerk to Judge Wayne R. Andersen. She also worked in private practice in several firms including her own. Judge Cox volunteers as the Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Problem-Solving Courts Foundation.
