Magistrate Judge Schenkier’s Bio

Magistrate Judge Sidney I. Schenkier has served as a United States Magistrate Judge sitting in federal court in Chicago, Illinois since October 30, 1998. He served as Presiding Magistrate Judge from January 2008 through January 2012, as President of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association from July 2013 through July 2014, and currently is a member of the Magistrate Judge Committee of the Judicial Conference. Judge Schenkier presides over a broad range of criminal and civil matters and participates extensively in the mediation of civil cases. Judge Schenkier also has served as a member of the Rules Committee and the Patent Rules Committee of the District Court.

He worked for more than 17 years at the law firm of Jenner & Block and obtained his law degree, magna cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law. For more than 30 years, he has taught as an adjunct at Northwestern.
