On Wednesday August 15, 2018, over 45 younger lawyers and practitioners attended a lunchtime CLE panel on effective skills in mediations and settlement conferences, featuring the Honorable Sidney Schenkier and current JAMS mediators the Honorable Morton Denlow (Ret.) and the Honorable Geraldine Soat Brown (Ret.).

The Judges offered valuable insight into the “dos and don’ts” of advocating for one’s client during negotiations. Attendees were able to ask questions of the Judges and learn the best ways to position one’s client at mediation or settlement conferences, counsel the client on the benefits of settlement, and achieve maximum results. Cunyon Gordon, Director of the Settlement Assistance Program, also presented on the benefits of taking a pro bono matter as settlement assistance counsel.

The lunchtime panel was one of the various programs hosted in August by the FBA Chicago Chapter’s Young Lawyers Division in celebration of YLD Month. Other events included a Happy Hour and School Supply Drive and a Chambers Lunch with Magistrate Judge Sheila Finnegan.
